If we win one more games, we should make the semi-finals.
This was a great game by the boys. They found their rhythm early on the offensive end, causing the Bulls to foul quickly in the first quarter. However, they struggled with the Bulls' big centre who was posting and using his weight to push to the basket. The key to stopping his effectiveness was the agile Kurt Joyner, who in the second quarter shut down the inbound pass and starved the centre of the ball.
Interestingly, in this game our ballhandlers took twice as many shots as the shooters. There were some glorious assist opportunities missed but at the same time the Sharks exposed the weakness of the Bulls defence through the centre on transition.
James Trimble was especially effective in this game, using his speed and momentum to get to the basket. In the process he picked up a personal best with 10 points.
James and Kurt were our MVPs.
Nathan McOrist must also be mentioned for his defence. He stayed in front of players and on a number of occasions put his body on the line.
Jackson Suva attacked the basket as well, getting four shots and finding himself on the free throw line for his efforts.
Michael Northey was in excellent position for much of this game and deserved more than a single point.
Aaron Caldwell was agressive under the basket (as if he could be anything else), but he also looked for the passes and gave some great feeds to open men.
Jackson Gogoll had a fairly quiet game because of his position as a shooter. He had few opportunities to shine, but he set up a number of plays when he kicked the ball back out and opened up the centre for other players to drive.
Addam Stone forced up some shots in close, which hurt his percentage but was impressive when he dribbled the ball up the court. He not only did this with speed but also made some excellent passes, including a perfect assist to Kurt Joyner who sprinted ahead and got into the low post as the defence came out.
Our big man Anthony Rodriguez was recovering from a flu. He was not as quick as usual and he seldom attacked the basket, which is very unusual for him. He had limited time but still picked up four rebounds and three steals. Anthony's antcipation in the past two games has been fantastic, and his steals have been clean and led directly to fast breaks.
This was an excellent game all round.
Next week we take on the tough Sutherland Sharks 3 team and then after that we are up against Manly in the final regular season game.
