Win versus Hills at home

Sharkies Angels - our cheer squad

And it's up

Anthony fights for a rebound

Hills versus Sutherland
at Sutherland
Win 35-31

The boys really deserved this win, achieving it with some strong defence and fast court movement.
Last time we played Hills, their team's number 9 (Joel Edwards) a tall, fast forward and number 5 (Alex Colli) a point guard with excellent ball skills scored 35 points between them. With that in mind we were out to shut those two players down by blocking passing lanes and challenging every shot.
It worked, this time Hills attacking players only scored 17, although their number 13 player, another tall fast forward, stepped up for 10
The game was actually won in the first quarter where we got ahead 12-8 - every quarter after that was even or there was only one point in it.
We also passed well, although it doesn't show in the assist column, and gave the ball to players who were open.
Kurt Joyners defence was a big factor in this game, as he forced Hills players into hurrying passes and shots. This led to steals for others on the team. The fact that Kurt fouled out in the fourth quarter made things tense on the bench (we needed his fast feet), but it also showed just how in-the-face he was.
It seems that when Kurt, Anthony and James are big on defence, we have a good game.
Our total turnovers were down this time, so we are starting to look after the ball a little better. Jackson Gogoll and Addam Stone both had personal bests in this area, and Kurt was shaping up for the same before he had a few turnovers late in the third quarter.
James Trimble and Addam Stone carried the team in terms of scoring. James had some strong drives, and Addam earned most valuable player, hitting three consecutive shots in the second quarter that gave us a solid lead over Hills and a huge shot in the dying seconds of the game that sealed the win.
Jackson Gogoll's 6 points early were crucial to our first quarter lead.
Nathan and Michael had the least time on court but the defence of both when they were there was outstanding. Both boys have really moved their feet well in recent games and stay in front of their player.
Our distributor Jack Suva stuggled at first against the fast Hills team but eventually got back at them with three steals and kicked into a higher gear bringing the ball up.
Aaron drove strongly, getting to the free-throw line with his power on the dribble.
This was a great team effort with the boys all sticking to the game plan.
We will need the same stifling defence against Ryde next week, who have two very tall and strong men.
